"I Watch, Therefore I Am"

My name is Margarita, or Margie (ever since the Souvlaki was yanked from my tiny Greek hands and I was placed in a waspy private school), and I am a TV blogger from Adelaide, South Australia.

For many, the mere mention of television sends them into a frantic spiel about the degradation of culture. I am not one of these people. I adore the medium for a number of reasons including the opportunity it gives its writers to create and explore increasingly more complex characters and worlds.

While I mostly seem to discuss David Lynch and his works, I can often be found binge-watching something on Netflix, or creating some sort of digital content about shows that inspire me creatively.

I think it is because I am endlessly fascinated by the many different characters we encounter in our daily lives, that I have such an insatiable appetite for the small screen. I believe our tastes, observations and thoughts can communicate a great deal about who we are, and so the following are some of my favourite programs and the qualities I believe we have in common.

Twin Peaks

I like to investigate, solve puzzles and find solutions. I enjoy looking at things from an alternative (albeit, at times, slightly surreal) perspective. Cherry pie and coffee are my happy place.

“Harry, I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.” – Special Agent Dale Cooper

The Wire

I enjoy listening and observing.  I believe people are always communicating, whether it be through language, personal style or body language.  I try to use these observations to adapt my work for target audiences, and speak their language.

"Game's the same, just got more fierce.” – Slim Charles

Six Feet Under

I endeavour to develop meaningful relationships in both my personal and professional life, based on empathy and understanding. I delve deep to bring the truth to the surface. I sometimes see dead people.

“If we live our lives the right way then everything we do can become a work of art.” – Claire Fisher

Breaking Bad

Like Walter, I am excellent at rationalising my choices and convincing myself that my own wants are for the greater good. For example, in order to justify the fact that I watch hours of TV a day, I started a TV blog.

"There must exist certain words in a certain specific order that can explain all of this.”  –Walter White

Curb Your Enthusiasm

I  embrace my idiosyncrasies and unique quirks. I question and analyse things others may take for granted. Like Larry David, nothing gives me more pleasure than cracking an egg,

“I’m trying to elevate small talk to medium talk” – Larry David

Mad Men

I love telling stories with words and images and connecting with people through my content.  I appreciate a classic aesthetic and try to develop my thinking to meet the rapidly changing world around us.

“If you don’t like what’s being said, change the conversation.” – Donald Draper

Freaks and Geeks

I have always been somewhat of a social chameleon and love conversing with a wide variety of people from all walks of life.  I am perpetually surrounded by musicians, while having no musical talent myself.

"You can do whatever you want if you believe in yourself." – Lindsay Weir

Arrested Development

I often look at my life and think, "I've made a huge mistake."  I believe that effective commentary is not so much of a trick, but an illusion.  I love all the members of my large, eccentric family.

“Larry really never knows how to sell the sarcasm” – George Bluth Sr.
